Background
You can group the WiiM Mini connected devices with other AirPlay devices such as HomePod, HomePod Mini, Amazon Echo or another WiiM Mini to listen music throughout your house. The WiiM Mini has been pre-calibrated with the HomePod and Echo for the perfect synchronization if it's connected to an audio playback device with zero latency delay (many monitor speakers can achieve this). However, if your speaker/amp needs some time to play out the sound, you need compensate this latency with the manual sync.
How-to
The following rule of thumb may be useful to adjust the latency value when you have the sync issue.
- If you use Aux-out with the WiiM Mini, the latency is usually small ranging from 2ms to no larger than 10 ms.
- If you use optical out with the WiiM Mini, the latency is much larger than the analog audio output ranging from 10ms to 50ms+.
- When you perform the manual sync, if the Mini is slower/later than other devices, you can increase the audio path latency (a bit against intuition) that tells the sync protocol that your speaker has larger audio latency so they can output audio earlier to you then you can catch up. Keep increasing the audio path delay until you match the counterpart.
