When streaming music via AirPlay to your WiiM device, you may encounter dropout issues. This tutorial will walk you through the troubleshooting steps to resolve them.
Not all WiiM devices support Airplay. For details, refer to List of WiiM Devices Supporting AirPlay 2.
Troubleshooting AirPlay Dropouts
1. Check Wireless Signal Strength
Check the signal strength on both your WiiM device and AirPlay device (e.g., a Mac, iPhone, Apple TV). Ensure that they both have a strong connection.
Follow these steps to check the signal strength of your WiiM device:
- Open the WiiM Home app.
- Go to the Devices tab.
- Tap the Device Settings icon
of your WiiM device.
- Select Network Status, then check Wi-Fi Strength. Ensure it shows Very Good or Excellent.
If your WiiM device or AirPlay device has a weak signal, move it closer to the router to improve signal strength.
2. Disable Wi-Fi Roaming
If you have a mesh network, try to disable the Wi-Fi roaming setting in the WiiM Home app by follow these steps:
- Open the WiiM Home app.
- Go to the Devices tab.
- Tap the Device Settings icon
of your WiiM device.
- Select Network Status, then toggle off Wi-Fi Roaming.
3. Restart Devices
Restart your Wi-Fi router, WiiM device, AirPlay device. This can help resolve temporary connection issues.
4. Seperate 5GHz and 2.4GHz Bands on Your Router
If you are using a dual-band router with the same SSID (network name ) for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, it may cause connectivity issues.
Follow these steps to seperate networks and then connect devices to the network:
- Seperate the bands by assigning a unique SSID to each. For detailed instructions, refer to Separating the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands on your router.
- Connect your WiiM device and AirPlay device to the 5GHz network as it offers higher bandwidth and less wireless interference. You can enforce this connection by enabling 5 GHz Only in Network Status in the WiiM Home app.
- If the AirPlay dropouts persist on the 5GHz network, try disabling 5 GHz Only in the WiiM Home app, then connecting your WiiM device and AirPlay device to the 2.4GHz network.
Ensure that both your WiiM device and AirPlay device (e.g., iPhone) are connected to the same network, whether it is the 5GHz or 2.4GHz network.
5. Use Ethernet
If your WiiM device has an Ethernet port, you can connect it directly to your router via Ethernet. Ensure that your AirPlay device is connected to the same network as your WiiM device.
If the issue persists, please send us feedback through the WiiM Home app so we can quickly assist you with troubleshooting.
